how our songwriting competition works
Each registrant may submit one song into the competition.
Songs must be submitted via the Competition Submission Form no later than midnight central time, Sunday, September 22, 2024. Each submission must include the entry form, an mp3 of the song, and the lyric of the song in a Word document.
Each writer should list the tile of the song and all co-writers' names on their lyric, even if the co-writers do not attend the workshop.
We categorize songs by genre. There will be competition groups for:
Writers will be assigned to a small group of up to 14 people with two professional evaluators, either two writers or one writer and one publisher. They will listen to your song in the small group and then give you valuable verbal feedback. You will also receive their written critiques of your song following the workshop. In 2020, these evaluations will be emailed to you.
The winning song from each small group will be heard on Saturday afternoon by a select committee of pro songwriters, publishers, and former grand prize winners, and they will choose the grand prize winning song. Winners will be announced at the close of the workshop on Saturday evening.
First, second and third place winners of each small group will receive current CD’s or other prizes.
The grand prize winner will receive: 1) a professionally-made demo of the song, 2) a free registration to next year’s Write About Jesus Workshop. In addition, when the winner is ready to make a trip to Nashville, we will arrange several professional co-writes and meetings for him or her with publishers.
