I left Nashville in 2015 to take a position as a Worship Pastor in central Florida. Even though I knew without a doubt the Lord was leading me, I also knew I’d be leaving the network of songwriting friends behind that I’d worked three years to build.
Then in 2019, Allison Speer visited our church. I told her about being a songwriter and how badly I missed the network I’d left behind. She told me about Write About Jesus. She said, “If you go, you’ll find your tribe.”
Was she ever right! I went in October of 2019. The worship song I entered won the group I was in. Less than two months later, I was signed to a publishing contract.
Now, in 2022, I’m privileged to count some of the clinicians at WAJ to be friends and co-writers. It’s been less than three years since I walked into a church in St. Louis brand new to WAJ, but God knew what He had in store even when I didn’t. He sent Allison to tell me where I’d find my tribe. I’m thankful every day that I listened. I found it. You will, too.
