I am a square peg. I've always known this, and I suspected other people did, too. Square pegs usually feel like they are alone in their squareness and that everyone else fits neatly into the little round holes that life surrounds them with. As such a square peg, I went one weekend in June of 2005 to an NSAI seminar where I entered a song into the contest and surprisingly it won. One of the judges that day was Rick Shelton of Daywind who told me of a wonderful three day conference put on by Sue Smith. He said he thought I would benefit from it. No truer words were ever spoken.
So in October of that same year I took a chance and registered for Write About Jesus, and nothing has ever been the same. There I found a community where being a square peg was not only tolerated, but encouraged.... some would argue, even required. It's a fellowship where you begin to see how your life experiences, your viewpoint, your voice can be woven into the fabric of a song and how to perfect that song. What's more, you meet others who share your passion and dreams and understand you like no one else can. You sit under the teaching of clinicians who have walked right down the path you're on and know just how you feel, where the pitfalls are and how to avoid them...because they're square pegs, too.
This will be my 18th year at Write About Jesus, and I can't wait to see all my square peg friends again!
